Keeler: Broncos Country says “no tanks” to tanking for Caleb Williams after 19-17 win over Green Bay: “It’s almost offensive to me as a fan of the Broncos”

Every seventh head in Section 501 looked as if it belonged in a mousetrap, not a mile high. Jeremy Marty waved an Orange & Blue arm at the invasion of Cheeseheads below us Sunday at Empower Field and shook his head.“I don’t want to tank,” Marty, a Broncos lifer here from Nashville, told me during the third quarter of Denver 19, Green Bay 17, Aesthetics 0. “I believed in this team at the beginning of the year. And my blood runs deep for the Broncos.“So to go and even think for a second that they would go and tank at all is almost offensive to me as a fan of the Broncos — even as much as what we’re seeing with these yellow-and-green jerseys. Actually, it pains me to see this. So I would say absolutely not.”Denver celebrated Week 7 by moving to 2-0 vs. the NFC North and 0-5 vs. everybody else. The eye test tells us the Packers and Bears aren’t in the same weight class as the Eagles and Dolphins, let alone the same zip code. But a gift...

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton turns into third-down weapon in win over Packers

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:06:29 GMT

The Broncos hoped the Green Bay Packers would show man coverage. Facing a third-and-4 with 6:22 to go in the third quarter, head coach Sean Payton had the perfect play drawn up for wide receiver Courtland Sutton. They only needed the right defensive look from the Packers. They got it.Sutton motioned left, causing cornerback Rasul Douglas to run into tight end Adam Trautman and safety Jonathan Owens. Douglas tried to chase down Sutton, but the veteran wideout, who has been the subject of trade rumors since the offseason, had more than enough separation to make an easy 18-yard touchdown catch to give the Broncos a 16-3 lead.“That was great coaching,” quarterback Russell Wilson said. “We wanted to get (Sutton) isolated, and (he) did a great job getting open.”In Denver’s 19-17 win over the Packers on Sunday, the team’s first victory at Empower Field at Mile High this season, Sutton was a bright spot on offense, finishing with six catches for 76 yards. But his efforts on third down had a ...

DENVER (AP) — Jordan Love had a receiver open in the flat late in the fourth quarter, trailing by two. Instead, he tried to go deep. His pass was intercepted.Ballgame.It was another loss and more growing pains for Love and the young Packers offense, which scuffled once again while falling 19-17 to the equally scuffling Denver Broncos on Sunday.Love is frustrated by the offensive inefficiency. So is coach Matt LaFleur. Same with the defense, which held Russell Wilson and the Broncos (2-5) largely in check and rallied to take a 17-16 lead midway through the fourth quarter.“We just lost to Denver. Not saying they’re terrible, but come on,” defensive back Rasul Douglas said after Green Bay’s fourth loss in five games. “We’ve got to win — and it’s just hard for us to win. Whatever we’ve got to do to change that, I think that’s what we’ve got to do.”The Packers (2-4) can’t find any rhythm on offense, especially early. They’ve been outscored 63-6 in...

The Steelers also converted three of their five third-down plays and came through on a pivotal fourth-down play before the two-minute warning when quarterback Kenny Pickett got a generous spot on fourth-and-1 sneak at the Rams 3...
