SAN FRANCISCO — Draymond Green will be out for the Warriors’ season opener against the Phoenix Suns, coach Steve Kerr announced on Monday.Green has missed all five preseason games and most of training recovering from a left ankle sprain he injured the week before training camp began. The 33-year-old has been practicing with the team and doing 5-on-5 scrimmages since Sunday, but isn’t in game-playing condition.“We don’t feel like it would be wise to throw him out there with so little scrimmage time on the floor,” Kerr said. This is the second Opening Night Green will miss in his 12-year career and first since the 2020-21 season when he sat out against Kevin Durant’s Brooklyn Nets with foot soreness.Related ArticlesGolden State Warriors | Warriors, Thompson not near contract extension ahead of season opener: report Golden State Warriors | How Steve Kerr is changing Warriors practices to rectify “failed” se...

Warriors, Thompson not near contract extension ahead of season opener: report

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:12:50 GMT

The Warriors and Klay Thompson are reportedly not close to an agreement on a contract extension as the former All-NBA guard prepares to open his 13th season with Golden State on Tuesday night.Thompson’s camp and the front office are at a “dead point” in negotiations, according to a Monday report from The Athletic, with issues both on the length of the deal and the money involved. There is no deadline for Thompson, 33, and the Warriors to agree to a deal, but with the season opener as a deadline for extensions to many rookie contracts, it’s a time when other agreements come together, too.The Warriors are reportedly aiming to stay under the second level of the luxury tax (expected to be around $190 million), which may be difficult with almost $115 million already committed to the other members of the Warriors’ starting five.Thompson signed a five-year, $190 million contract in 2019 just after tearing his ACL in the NBA Finals. He missed the 2019-20 season,...

Bay Area weather: How much rain did we get?

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:12:50 GMT

It wasn’t a downpour. But it wasn’t just a light sprinkle. And a few areas in the mountains actually got a decent amount. The rain that fell Sunday across the Bay Area ranked as the highest precipitation total for any day in nearly six months. That’s not unusual. Very little rain falls most years in summer in California. Nevertheless, the soggy Sunday was a reminder that autumn is here and the state’s winter rainy season has begun.San Francisco received .19 inches Sunday — not a lot by winter storm standards. But the last time more fell in a single day was on May 5, when the city received .54 inches.Oakland similarly saw .19 inches, the most since May 6, when .22 inches fell. The storm came ashore mostly in the Sonoma area, so rain totals were lower farther south. San Jose received .07 inches Sunday, slightly less than the .08 that fell Sept. 30. The last time significantly more fell in the Bay Area’s most populous city was May 5, when .15 inches arr...
