LLANO COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A brush fire that began burning at a ranch Thursday afternoon grew to scorch 707 acres and is 80% contained as of 9 p.m. SaturdayOfficials said no homes have been lost, but 12 were threatened. The blaze was likely started by someone in the area operating machinery, according to the Texas A&M Forrest Service. Air support and dozers are expected to keep working on building firelines overnight.Humidity kept the flames low early Friday morning, which helped the containment process. Even though the majority of the fire is now contained, officials said the conditions Friday afternoon were concerning. "This excessive heat is just making these fuels even dryer," said Walter Flocke of Texas A&M Forrest Service. "Temperatures over triple digits every single day, multiple days in a row, is going to make what could have been a smaller fire even bigger and harder for crews to control," Flocke continued. On the day when Major League Soccer officially announced the arrival of soccer’s most famous number 10, Lionel Messi, the two number 10s provided the only scoring for Los Angeles FC and Minnesota United FC, in a 1-1 draw at Allianz Field.Carlos Vela and Emanuel Reynoso scored three minutes apart in the first half, and MNUFC finished its pre-summer break schedule with yet another draw at home. The Loons missed a chance to win back-to-back MLS games for what would have been only the second time this season. It was the Loons’ sixth draw in 10 home games this year, against just two wins. Only struggling Colorado has fewer home wins than Minnesota this season, a major reasons that the Loons continue to hover around ninth place, the final playoff place in MLS this year.Vela opened the scoring for LAFC on what was practically a broken play. Loons midfielder Kervin Arriaga missed a flick on a bouncing ball in midfield, and Los Angeles wing Stipe Buik was able to let Vela loose behind the def...Saints’ Funderburk working his way onto Twins’ radar

Due to COVID, 2020 will always be known as minor-league baseball’s lost season. But Saints left-handed reliever Cody Funderburk will remember it as the year he found himself as a pitcher.Three years later, a 25-pound weight loss, a commitment to fitness and two new effective pitches have pushed the former 15th-round draft pick very much into the Twins’ plans.“He’s an under-the-radar guy who is getting more on the radar this year,” Saints pitching coach Pete Larson said prior to the Saints’ 4-2 win over the Durham Bulls on Saturday at CHS Field. The 6-foot-4 Funderburk was a 250-pound power-hitting first baseman/pitcher at Dallas Baptist University when the Twins drafted him in 2018 as a pitcher. He had a lackluster 2019 season at Cedar Rapids (1-3, 4.68 ERA) before word came that the 2020 minor-league season would be canceled.“I was really nervous about the whole year because no one really knew what was going on,” the 26-year-old Funderburk said. “I knew that it was a year where I co...Latest news
