Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 13:10:18 GMT

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The path to clean energy is becoming clear in Texas. Austin-based Focused Energy was one of eight companies to receive a $46 million grant from the Department of Energy. The grant is part of President Biden's plan to have a fusion powered electricity plant within a decade."Our ultimate goal is to produce electrical power with just tap water," said Charlie Jarrott, a senior scientist with Focused Energy.Jarrott said that fusion power is created when two atoms are forced to merge under intense heat and pressure, something that happens on our own sun. But doing this on Earth is challenging. "The universe doesn't want us doing fusion, the ability to confine something for just long enough to allow it to happen has proven to be one of the greatest challenges over the past 100 years or so."Bringing fusion power to the massesThe DOE selected eight companies to receive the money. Each has 18 months to design a power plant that uses fusion power. If they are successful, they w...

Cheap TrickCheap Trick (Epic)Cheap Tricks for Bellrays: Bob Vennum of rock & soulers the Bellrays told us about his love for Cheap Trick’s classic debut.Bob Vennum: I remember hearing Cheap Trick for the first time at a friend’s house. She played Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and then In Color. Despite immediately wanting to go home and grab my guitar and figure out the cool chord progression to “I Want You to Want Me”, I remember thinking how wimpy it sounded next to “American Girl” or “Breakdown”. My immediate reaction was that it sounded like one of the local bands around that had put out their own record. (Epic)The next year they put out Live at Budakon and then I got it. I don’t think I put my guitar down for a month! It hit me so hard that this article could’ve easily been all about that record. By the mid ’90s I had been doing original music in local bands for almost 10 years. TasteFood: Add a little bling to grilled eggplant

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 13:10:18 GMT

Eggplant on the grill is a summer favorite. A brush of olive oil, a sprinkle of salt and the fire of the grill are all that’s needed to transform firm, spongy eggplant wedges and planks into crispy-squidgy versions of themselves. But why stop there?Take it up a notch with a recipe inspired by Yotam Ottolenghi, the Israel-born British chef and cookbook author. In his recipe, he roasts wedges of eggplant doused in a chermoula-infused oil heady with North African spice, and then tops it with an herby bulgur salad and creamy yogurt for a beautiful and substantial vegetarian dish. The recipe below is a lighter, simplified adaptation. It focuses exclusively on the eggplant and garnishes it with an herbaceous gremolata studded with bits of preserved lemon. It’s bright and fresh, a lovely side dish that can be served warm or at room temperature.Ideally, choose long, narrow eggplants and cut them into narrow wedges. Alternatively, cut thick slices lengthwise from globe eggplants. ...
